Why Brevard County cares what's in your bin
Brevard County's waste system is designed to protect the Indian River Lagoon and our groundwater. Everything you set at the curb eventually gets processed locally, and a handful of everyday items can contaminate soil and water if they're crushed in a landfill or burned in an incinerator.

- Propane tanks and compressed gas cylinders
- Asbestos-containing materials — requires licensed abatement, always
Where these items CAN go in Brevard County
Brevard County operates Household Hazardous Waste collection centers where residents can drop off most of the items above for free or a small fee. Electronics are accepted at designated e-waste facilities, and many tire retailers will take old tires when you buy new ones.
The catch? You have to load it, drive it, wait in line, and unload it. For one can of paint that's fine. For a garage full of mystery chemicals, old TVs, and forty tires — it becomes a weekend project.
